compliance assistance, and acts as a portal to numerous federal
employment programs and agencies. The Occupational
Safety and Health Administration (www.osha.gov) is responsible for workplace safety and health standards, enforcement
and education. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov) is the
principal fact-finding agency for the federal government in the
broad field of labor economics and statistics. The Employment
Standards Administration (www.dol.gov/esa) provides compliance information for the Fair Labor Standards
Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act. The Employee
Benefits Security Administration (www.dol.gov/ebsa) provides support for ERISA compliance and pension, health and other
employee benefit plans.
U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (www.eeoc.gov) enforces federal EEO laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment
in the workplace. It investigates and resolves complaints of illegal
discrimination and develops regulations and policies for enforcement.
New York State Employment Agencies
New York State Department of Labor (www.labor.state.ny.us/) administers New York's unemployment insurance system, labor exchange
system, and Welfare-To-Work programs. The department also oversees
state worker protection programs, including enforcement of safety
and health regulations in the public sector, state labor laws and
federal statutes related to working conditions, wages and hours,
and laws related to Public Work. The Department of Labor serves
as the States principal source for labor market information and
offers a variety of services designed to help businesses find workers
and people find jobs.
New York State Division of Human Rights (www.dhr.state.ny.us/) is New York state's version of the EEOC enforcing the corresponding
state laws prohibiting discrimination and harassment in the workplace.

California State Employment Agencies
Department of Fair Employment and Housing (www.dfeh.ca.gov) is the California agency enforcing the state laws prohibiting discrimination
and harassment in the workplace. State of
California (www.ca.gov/state/portal/myca_homepage.jsp) website provides comprehensive information regarding the states
complex labor and employment laws including unemployment insurance,
state disability, paid family leave, workers compensation and links
to all relevant agencies, such as the Division
of Labor Standards Enforcement which adjudicates wage and
hour claims.
